Houston’s LGBTQ nightlife is always evolving. Montrose continues to be the hub for LGBTQ culture but bar and club owners know that if you want to stay on top of the game you have to provide a fresh look, fresh entertainment and a fresh coat of paint. 

Once upon a time Rich’s was the premiere gay dance club. It was located in Midtown, before Midtown underwent its own evolution from warehouses to mixed use apartments. Then in the early 2000’s Rich’s went dormant while other Montrose clubs ruled the scene. Around 2016 Rich’s launched a successful “Rich’s Reborn” campaign and it re-emerged as the place to play with an updated dancefloor and a spiked mirror ball that hung precariously above the dance floor.

But as with all things nightlife, there is a season. And it appeared that Rich’s season has passed until recently when ownership announced big changes. Rich’s would be relocating from Midtown to Montrose and  rebranding as ReBar. 

ReBar is officially open at 202 Tuam, another famous location to Houston’s queer community. This space was once the home of FBar back in the day. When patrons walk into the redeveloped space they're once again welcomed by the familiar spiked disco ball, back where it belongs above the dance floor, and surrounded by familiar bartenders. 

“This very popular address is undergoing a reunion, revitalization and a rebirth as ReBar Houston.” says the bars website, explaining the reason for the “Re”.

For now the venue is only open Fridays to Sundays while it spends the rest of the week remodeling. Club-goers who visit regularly will be able to experience the revitalization in real time until it’s inevitable, and official, re-launch.

Some of the events Rich’s was famous for will remain mainstays despite the move. RuPaul’s Werq the World 2019 tour will hit ReBar on November 10 - solidifying it as not only a dance club but a legitimate performance venue.

They are also pushing hard for a Sunday Funday crowd and of course there will be DJ’s galore to entice those who are looking to dance the night away.
