In 2026, the Lunar New Year officially begins on February 17th and ends on February 27th. The Lunar New Year is an event worth celebrating, and Houston knows how to celebrate. The Year of the Horse is one for energy, freedom, speed, vitality, and perseverance, and it’s also the perfect time for those who don’t observe to enjoy new cultural dishes, meals, and customs.
DINING

Dumplings are a staple, so experience them with the lively hustle and bustle of dim sum. Head over to Kim Son, Ocean's Palace, or Fung's Kitchen (pictured) for an unforgettable experience. Expect a crowd, but Fung’s is the perfect spot for a celebration for the whole family.

If you celebrate the Vietnamese Tết, then get yourself to Jenni's Noodle House, Mai's Restaurant, Moon Rabbit (pictured), or Pho Ben for some classic Vietnamese cuisine, with options for vegetarians and vegans. If you want a fully vegan, pan-Asian spread, from noodles to sesame balls, then head to Trendy Vegan. For a touch of Texas with tradition, try Blood Bro.'s BBQ for a blend of Asian-fusion barbecue or JŪN for an eclectic menu of New Asian-American dishes.
SHOPPING
Purchasing new red and gold attire, citrus, plants, and other lucky items is the perfect way to celebrate the start of the Lunar New Year. Houston’s Chinatown is a cultural hub and is rich with stores to find a variety of places to eat, shop, and stay. Hong Kong City Mall, your ultimate shopping and dining destination, is a one-stop shop for the latest fashion trends, world-class dining, entertainment, boutiques, and more. Further west of Houston, Katy Asian Town also offers an impressive array of shops, restaurants, and activities. To celebrate the Korean New Year, pick up the ingredients to cook Tteokguk or Jeon at the Korean-focused H Mart.
