Texas and meat are pretty much synonymous. You can’t pass a block in Houston without seeing a barbeque joint, Tex-Mex restaurant or burger joint. Therefore, it’s not surprising that our vegetarian friends don’t feel the love they deserve in our great city. Next time you want to go to dinner, put down the ribs and consider going healthy at one of these veggie havens serving healthy, natural cuisine with some of the freshest ingredients the city has to offer.

Verdine

Verdine is changing the way Houstonians see vegan food. The eatery’s philosophy of “truthful, green dining,” keeps the food fresh, vibrant and delicious. That’s why it was also our choice for September’s Brunch of the Month location.

Pepper Tree

The menu at Pepper Tree is 100% vegan and 100% delicious. Pepper Tree’s menu offers staples like egg rolls, dumplings, soups, and favorites like General Tso’s vegan chicken and tofu curry. The real insider’s secret is their overstuffed lunch buffet that offers a taste of everything.

Local Foods

While not entirely vegetarian, there is enough of a selection that you won’t hear a complaint from your herbivore friends. With five locations throughout the city, you’ll always close enough to pop in for their vegan taco salad with baby kale, avocado and pumpkin seeds, or bite into their filling quinoa burger.

Vibrant

The best word to describe this restaurant’s cuisine is in the name: vibrant. Colorful and healthy dishes color their menu with dishes like Za’atar Socca with a creamy eggplant-caramelized onion spread on flatbread, as well as salads, grain bowls and noodle dishes.

True Food

Their wide menu offers options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Dishes like their unbeetable burger, which showcases beets instead of meat, or the T.L.T sandwich with smoked tempeh, butter lettuce, tomato, avocado, vegan mayonnaise and seeded grain bread.

Green Seed Vegan

Located in the Museum District, Green Seed Vegan specializes in sandwiches, paninis and pressed juices. We suggest the Dirty Burque, a buckwheat patty topped with green chilies, arugula, avocado, tomato, onion mayo and mustard served on a wheat bun.
