Confession: I am single. Shocker, I know. A fact that rarely crosses my mind unless I am filling out a census form or responding to another RSVP for a friend’s wedding. But there is no shame in being single, even on a day like Valentine’s Day which is a day to celebrate that special connection between two people.
As RuPaul proclaims at the end of each episode of Drag Race, “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” So I suggest to my fellow singles to follow his advice and take a day to treat yourself. And in a city as vibrant and large as Houston, the possibilities and options are endless.
Grab Dinner With Friends
Take this time to reconnect with friends. Go out to dinner and bond over some wine at one of the many restaurants that earned Houston the title of one of the nation’s top food cities.
Quality Time With Pets
Who says your pet can’t be your valentine? Grab your pooch and head out to one of Houston’s many green spots. And who knows, maybe your animal will serve as the perfect catalyst to strike up a conversation with that person who catches your eye.
Sugary Sweetness
Give in to that sweet tooth and indulge in something decadent and chocolatey at one of these bakeries. And don’t forget that on February 15 all those unsold chocolate hearts will be discounted at every grocery store.
Buy Some Happy
Treat yourself to a shopping spree at one of Houston’s many retail spots. Whether you are in the Galleria or sifting for bargains at stores like The Guild Shop, a little retail therapy can go a long way.
Spa Therapy
Melt away stress and relax at one of Houston’s top-notch salons and spas. You’re worth it.
Grab a Cocktail
Get out and mingle with other singles at one of Houston’s bars. The Dunlavy and the dating app Bumble, are hosting a Valentine’s Day Happy Hour featuring live music and speciality drinks. Who knows, you just may meet your Mr. Right!
