One of Houston’s many nicknames is “The Energy Capital of the World” because we have over 5,000 energy-related businesses in operation across our greater metro area. While Houston is known as a titan of the oil industry, our renowned diversity heralds constant creativity and innovation. We have so many new enterprises in a myriad of industries, and it’s basically impossible to leave empty-handed when celebrating Small Business Saturday in Houston. Whether you’re treating yourself or treating someone else, Houston’s just bubbling with local businesses to support this November 30th.

A Heights favorite since 2007, Hello Lucky is a cute little bungalow on Studewood that is all about local artists and makers. The owner herself is a creative who contributes jewelry and other designs to the shop. A small, but awesome, clothing section is tucked between nooks and crannies featuring eclectic jewelry, handmade goods, vintage finds, and unique art.

An homage to the motorcycle and skateboarding countercultures of yesteryear, Reserve Supply Company on Washington Ave. carries clothing and accessories for the skater boys who took a turn for the sophisticated. Browsing is made even better with growlers of craft beer and flasks of whiskey can accompany you. Among the denim, footwear, Ray-Ban sunglasses, and vintage hats, shoppers will also find a full line of skateboards for only the most dapper of dudes.

Since 1974, Brazos Bookstore has been Rice Village’s literary heavyweight that not only showcases the most important literature of our time, but also engages the community with programs, book signings, and events. Especially in the spirit of Small Business Saturday, it should be noted that when the original owner of Brazos Bookstore retired in 2006, twenty-seven Houstonians came together and purchased the shop to own and operate equally—truly a cooperative, community-focused endeavor down to its roots.
