I dare you to find a jukebox in America that doesn’t have a least one song written by Carole King.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical follows the flourishing career of King, along with her writing partner and first husband Gerry Goffin. Together they wrote songs that soared to the top of the charts like “Up on the Roof,” “Take Good Care of My Baby” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) Natural Woman.”
The story includes her collaborations with other artists such as Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
“Yes, there is love in this story but it is not a love story,” says Becky Gulsvig who plays the role of Cynthia Weil. “She and Carole were such trailblazers as woman and just kept writing hit after hit, and it is inspiring to share that story of perseverance and friendship. “
King fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties had a career writing songs for some of the top artists in the music industry.
“So many people feel such an attachment to Carole and her music and I think a lot of people love Cynthia and Barry’s music as well but don’t know about them as much,” says Gulsvig. “I remember growing up, one of the first CDs I bought was of Caroles and now to be in a musical about her life and sharing her story is so great.”
This inspiring true story of King’s rise to success, first as a songwriter and then to a solo career, will leave you feeling, well, beautiful.
