Stanton's City Bites
The juicy burgers at this family owned establishment a few minutes north of downtown have become a Houston staple. Opened in 1961 as a grocery store, Stanton’s City Bites evolved into a restaurant under the ownership of Art and Theresa Fong.
Inside the white house that houses it, visitors will find a casual, diner-style restaurant with friendly service and delicious burgers that have been featured on The Travel Channel, Serious Eats and in George Motz’s book “Hamburger America,” a state-by-state guide to 200 great burger joints. Theresa has been running the store since 2013 when Art passed away, but his presence is still felt in the restaurant in a mural depicting him and aptly naming him “the patron saint of burgers.”
On the menu you’ll find made-to-order burgers for large appetites, like the Cowboy Brunch burger – a half-pound, hand shaped burger, topped with a fried egg, swiss cheese, fried pickles and bacon, sandwiched between buttered toast. Sandwiches, salads and snacks like egg rolls, waffle bites and chilli are also on offer.
Stanton’s City Bites is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
