Sawyer Yards
Houston’s First Ward has redefined the term industrial redevelopment with the creation of Sawyer Yards. Located just minutes from Downtown Houston in the heart of the Washington Avenue Arts District, the 400+ Artists at Sawyer Yards make up one of the nation’s largest creative campuses. Six repurposed industrial buildings create the campus: The Silos at Sawyer Yards, Silver Street Studios, Spring Street Studios, Summer Street Studios, Sabine Street and Winter Street Studios. Inside, local artists create and exhibit original works spanning a variety of mediums including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, mosaic, photography, mixed media, jewelry and more.
The Sawyer Yards campus is the largest concentration of working artist studios in the nation and includes participants from Winter Street, Spring Street, Silver Street and Silos studios, all of which are located at 2101Winter, just off Sawyer St.
Sawyer Yards regularly partners with the Arts District Houston to host public programs. On the second Saturday of each month, the artists of Sawyer Yards open their studios to the public from 12-5pm. The free event invites all to come and discover unique paintings, sculptures, jewelry, photography, clothing, textiles, printmaking, mixed media and even gives opportunities to meet an artist or two.
