Memorial Park/Washington Corridor

Dubbed “the largest urban park in Texas,” Memorial Park is Houston's most expansive central park, boasting extensive trails, vast green spaces and a robust forest. Located just inside Loop 610 at Woodway Drive, the Park’s 1,500 acres includes amenities like the iconic Kinder Land Bridge and Texas’ top-rated municipal 18-hole golf course, a premier facility hosting PGA Tour events. You’ll also find facilities for tennis, softball, track, sand volleyball, and a highly popular three-mile loop, dubbed the Seymour Lieberman Trail.

Memorial Park has experienced a significant transformation over the past six years, driven by Memorial Park Conservancy’s Master Plan and subsequent Ten-Year Plan, made possible by a catalyst gift from Kinder Foundation. Since 2020, the Ten-Year Plan has facilitated numerous projects that have revitalized the Park, including Clay Family Eastern Glades, Sports Complex, Seymour Lieberman Trail ravine bridges, Kinder Land Bridge, Cyvia & Melvyn Wolff Prairie and the Running Complex.

Each of these spaces bring a unique charm and purpose to Memorial Park, catering to a diverse array of visitors and enhancing the community's connection with nature.

Clay Family Eastern Glades, featuring its lush landscapes and wildlife-rich Hines Lake, provides a serene getaway for families and individuals in search of a peaceful retreat. The Sports Complex provides state-of-the-art facilities for athletes and sports enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Kinder Land Bridge and Cyvia & Melvyn Wolff Prairie serve as a testament to the Conservancy's commitment to ecological restoration and connectivity, linking habitats and providing a safe passage for both wildlife and people.

The Running Complex is a haven for fitness lovers and a hub for health and wellness, featuring a 400-meter timing track to support exercise and training, various meet-up spots to stretch or warm-up, and access to multiple trail heads.

If you're seeking more adventure at Memorial Park, look no further than Bayou Wilds. Situated along Buffalo Bayou, this southernmost area of the Park provides an intertwined system of natural surface trails, offering a serene escape from the city that is frequently enjoyed by mountain bikers, runners and hikers.

Trails:
Memorial Park offers 30+ miles of trails for both running and walking. Bikers also have a great selection of riding at Memorial Park, from the flat, paved Commuter Trail to the challenging, winding mountain-bike routes of Bayou Wilds. Additionally, the Roy H. Cullen Timing Track features a 400-meter, five-lane track designed for optimal performance.

Flora/Fauna:
Memorial Park features Gulf Coast prairie, savanna, and forested woodlands with a variety of trail systems to offer opportunities to spot rabbits and squirrels, residential and migrating birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Taking a walk along wetland features, including Hines Lake and South Woodway Pond (HANC), offers opportunities to spot turtles and frogs, a secretive heron, or bats as they come out to feed in the evening. Each of these unique habitats has a diversity of grasses, flowering plants, and trees to enjoy. Excited by what you have encountered? Upload your findings to the iNaturalist app!
