La Fisheria
Famed Latin America Chef Aquiles Chavez debuted his first U.S. restaurant in February 2012 in Houston’s Heights area, though he relocated the venture a few years later in favor of a larger Downtown space. Dubbed La Fisheria, the personality-filled concept is upscale Mexican with a clear emphasis on seafood.
Known throughout Latin America for his two restaurant-focused reality shows, Chef Aquiles’ local eatery is airy and bright, with rich colors reminiscent of the Mexican coast. Bold blue doors greet patrons at the entrance and traditional Mexican floor tiles made specially for La Fisheria pave the entire restaurant.
The food is by no means Tex-Mex, but rather authentic, interior Mexican defined by bold, yet light flavors. Reflecting that, the menu prices are a bit higher, but not prohibitive. Try the red snapper ceviche for something refreshing and the tuna tostadas for Chef Aquiles’ unique take. Do not leave without trying the churros served with house-made chocolate and honey herb dipping sauce.
Happy hour is also a big player at La Fisheria, where the full bar offers a wide selection of classic favorites like margaritas and new creations.
