Kolache Shoppe - Heights
There are few things Houstonians love more than kolaches. By definition, a kolache is a pastry that has sausage, meat or another type of filling in its center, but in H-Town the kolache knows no limits. These delicacies are a must-have for anyone visiting our city. Opening its second location in The Heights, Kolache Shoppe is upping the ante in the Houston kolache game by focusing on handcrafted kolaches and small batch coffee. The restaurant was started by Erwin Ahrens who made sure to keep the integrity of the Czech treat by relentlessly researching the food’s origin and recipe.
The only way Ahrens could perfect the kolache was by baking each from scratch, giving them time to rise and only using fresh ingredients. Now owned by Randy and Lucy Hines, the Koache Shoppe still uses the original recipe and baking process. The restaurant has over 30 kolache flavors including Pinkerton’s BBQ brisket, egg and cheddar and even vegan options. Sweet options include cottage cheese, apricot and poppy seed, to name a few. Patrons can also order from the full-service espresso bar that uses Boomtown Coffee beans, another Heights-area staple. Lastly, to offer additional convenience, there will be drive-through access on Yale Street for those on the go.
