Founded in 1828, Humble, located less than 5 miles from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, remains a popular destination for visitors looking to celebrate the past. If you are a history buff, don't miss the Humble Museum. It originally opened as the Humble Bicentennial Museum in 1976 and has since been presenting the history of the Humble and Lake Houston areas to residents and visitors through the preservation of artifacts and stories. The museum's most recent location opened in November 2020 with new captivating displays.
Step back in time to experience life in Humble, when it became an oil boomtown in the early 1900s when oil was first produced there. Did you know that by 1905, the Humble oilfield was the biggest producing field in Texas? Discover what happened when the oil boom receded and how Humble became home to some of the area's finest business and retail facilities.
Unique displays include one dedicated to Sam Houston, featuring his knife and an original letter, and another about Albert Horswill, a Titanic survivor who died in Humble. He was buried at a local cemetery on April 10, 1962, exactly 50 years after the Titanic left Southampton.
