Houston Dynamo FC is an American professional soccer club which competes in Major League Soccer, the top professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. The Dynamo, named to recognize Houston’s energy-based industrial economy, were established in December 2005 and played their first game at Robertson Stadium on April 1, 2006. In just their first and second seasons of play, they became claimed the 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championships. Additionally, the team has won the U.S. Open Cup championship in 2018 and 2023.
The Dynamo are led by coach Ben Olsen and General Manager and former Dynamo goalkeeper from the 2026 and 2007 Championship teams, Pat Onstad. The team is currently owned by Ted Segal, with partnership with additional investors, including former Houston Rocket Jame Harden. The group also owns and operates the Houston Dash of National Women’s Soccer League.
The team competes at Shell Energy Stadium on the edge of Downtown and near the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park. The state-of-the-art, 20,500-seat stadium is the only soccer-specific MLS stadium in a U.S. city's downtown.
