The Houston Dash is Houston’s only women’s professional sports team and entered the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as an expansion team for the 2014 season, kicking off their inaugural match at Shell Energy Stadium on April 12, 2014. The team won the 2020 Challenge Cup to claim their first trophy and advanced to the NWSL Playoffs in 2022.
The Dash roster annually includes many international players who participate in the Olympics, Women’s World Cup, and other international stage tournaments. They are currently led by head coach former Celtic F.C. Women’s Fran Alonso and General Manager Alex Singer. The team is currently owned by Ted Segal, with partnership with additional investors, including former Houston Rocket Jame Harden. The group also owns and operates Houston Dynamo FC of Major League Soccer.
The team competes at Shell Energy Stadium on the edge of Downtown and near the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park. The state-of-the-art, 20,500-seat was the first soccer-specific stadium used as a home pitch by an NWSL club when the Dash debuted in 2014.
