Rest in Peace, Ernie’s On Banks. The former Montrose-set sports dive closed in June 2010 and burst back onto the scene with a new look, new management and new name—Grand Prize Bar.

Within a month of shutting Ernie’s doors, GPB owners Ryan Rouse (former Beaver’s bartender) and Brad Moore (the man behind the Heights’ Big Star Bar) had already put a fresh spin on the spot’s well-worn interior. New paint, soft lighting and lounge-ready furniture were added, as was a photobooth, snack machine and juke box. Expect familiar faces from Big Star, Catbird’s and Rous to be doling out cold longnecks and mixing up innovative cocktails nightly.

Heads up to first timers: Parking is still tricky around here and is limited to the surrounding streets, so grab the first one you see.
