Dean’s Downtown is the reinvention of Dean’s Credit Clothing, a Historic District hipster hangout. The bar has a new, posher look and a more elaborate cocktail and beer menu. Still, the bar plays up the classic parts of this century-old building—the original hardwood floors, the city’s first elevator.
Dean’s Credit Clothing was a department store that opened on Main Street in the 1930s. The bar followed decades later and became a no frills haven for artists and Downtown dwellers. Now, the resurgence of the Historic District has welcomed many new concepts to this block of Main and a new team has taken over and reopened Dean’s. Inside you’ll find a warm space ruled by a beautiful, long wooden bar. Small seating groups and a little nook inside the old elevator in the back offer unique accents.
Dean’s Downtown is still in its early development as the bar looks to tweak its new identity. Options such as live bands, retro music and a more elaborate menu are being explored. For now, enjoy an evolving array of craft cocktails and regional beer selections. Or challenge these knowledgeable bartenders to make something unique for you.
