For Big Blue Whale, a good old fashioned toy store is about creating a place for children and their families to come and feel happy. The independent shop stocks toys and other goods for curious kids as well as the adults who love them. There are more than 100 lines of classic and new toys alike, as well as a selection of fun gifts.
Found in the heart of the historic Heights neighborhood, the toy store is an obvious fit for the many young families walking the area. In fact, the talented husband and wife team Becki and Jur van der Oord of Installations Antiques worked carefully to create Big Blue Whale in such a way that it would blend in to its historic setting. Original elements of the 1950 building remain and the space is full of vintage display cases, lighting, game boards and signs.
Big Blue Whale is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; closed Mondays.
