Abejas Boutique—named after the Spanish word for bumble bee—has enjoyed a fashionable following since owner Christina Mitchell opened the shop in 1996. The shop got its start along Westheimer Road and later, Kirby Drive, where it welcomed fans for 20 years, before relocating to a completely renovated, mid-century building in 2016.
In its 3,000-square-foot South Boulevard location, Mitchell’s boho-chic array of women’s clothing and accessories unfolds in an art gallery-like space marked by crisp white walls, understated concrete floors and natural light. Gauzy James Perse cardigans, Raquel Allegra tanks and ruffled Koch dresses hang alongside racks touting premium denim labels like Genetic, J Brand and Citizens of Humanity. Fashionable fans will also find Abejas’ house brand of belts, cuffs and totes, alongside hand-picked one-of-a-kind vintage accessories.
