Chef Ryan Lachaine, who served as sous chef at Houston’s Reef and Underbelly restaurants, debuted his own concept in late 2016. The 65-seat destination, dubbed Riel, stands in Montrose’s former House of Te location on Fairview.
While Riel is certainly a fine dining destination, it does so without pretention. Polished concrete floors, exposed rafters and an open kitchen are offset by rich wooden bar tops, mercury glass pendants and navy blue pops of color on the walls. Linen topped tables are forgone in favor of artisan stoneware and tea towel napkins. On Chef Lachaine’s well-edited menu, guests can expect creative selections highlighting local flavors and regionally-sourced products, all weaving in Texas’ gulf coast touches and French-Canadian influences taken from the Chef’s native Manitoba. Don’t miss the hanger steak with potato and cheddar pierogi, sister lake oysters and the tempura cauliflower with kimchi hot sauce.
Riel is open for dinner, Monday through Saturday.
