The Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) proudly presents two new exhibitions: Bert Long, Jr. Gallery Spring Survey Exhibition, as well as Pervs, Peppers, and the High Chaparral: Michael Abramson’s Chicago South Side Photographs, both curated by HMAAC’s Chief Curator, Christopher Blay. The exhibitions open on February 2, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Both exhibitions will be on view through March 30, 2024.

Pervs, Peppers, and the High Chaparral features 19 photographs from the now-deceased Michael Abramson, who created a precise snapshot of black joy in his nightclub pictures from the mid-70s.

Bert Long, Jr. Gallery Spring Survey Exhibition features photographs, an installation with video, and paintings from Omari Cato, Brian Edwards, Morgan Grisby, Justin O’Keith Higgs, Ann Johnson, Rosine Kouamen, Shavon Morris, Christopher Paul, and Kamaria Sheppard.
