Republican… Democrat… Let’s call the whole thing off. This election cycle has definitely been interesting and unlike any others. So, why not mock it and make money for charity?

That was exactly Halloween Magic’s thought as they were creating Rand Paul’s Drag Race: Destination 1600 Avenue, a charity show that mixes the current political climate with pop culture like RuPaul’s Drag Race and gay films.

Expect moments like a lip sync for your life, acting challenges and more shenanigans featuring candidates like Donatella Trump, Bernadette Sanders, Teodora Cruz, Mariquita Rubio and many others. It’s sure to be a wild show especially with an emcee like Rand Paul and a Charlie’s Angels trio of Melania Trump, Sarah Palin, and Bill Clinton.

“With RuPaul’s Drag Race, the election and just beauty pageants in general, we have had some pretty amazing material to work with,” Director Dennis Draper commented. “We are now in the process of even cutting jokes because we keep thinking, ‘Ok, if we keep all this, the show will be over three hours long.’ I have just been giddy about this since the beginning.”

Since its founding, Halloween Magic has raised more than one million dollars for Houston HIV/AIDS service organizations. The money raised from the 2016 Halloween Magic performances will benefit Lazarus House, Legacy, Pet Patrol, Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church, and Omega House. Co-chairs for the event are Jameson Gray, Thomas Gribble, and Gilbert Joseph Perez. The honorary chairs for the event are former Houston mayor Annise D. Parker and her wife, former Houston first lady Kathy Hubbard. Beloved Houston DJ Maria Todd serves as mistress of ceremonies.

“We just want to play up everything you will see in the news, add some zany songs, showcase a lot of local talent, all while raising money for a good cause,” says Draper.

Rand Paul’s Drag Race will perform on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church Gymnasium. Tickets are $50, and may be purchased at http://www.HalloweenMagic.org, or by calling 713-256-3880.
